  1. Pre-Islamic Persian religion founded by
  2. Zoroaster, and still practised by the Parsees
  3. in India. The Zendavesta are the sacred
  4. scriptures of the faith. The theology is
  5. dualistic, Ahura Mazda or Ormuzd (the good
  6. God) being in conflict with Ahriman (the evil
  7. God), but the former is assured of eventual
  8. victory. The return of Zoroaster will presage
  9. the resurrection of the dead and the creation
  10. of a paradise on Earth by Ahura Mazda. The
  11. free choice of good or evil renders believers
  12. responsible for their fate after death in
  13. heaven or hell. Procreation and life are
  14. valued, but death defiles - hence the custom
  15. of exposing corpses to be devoured by
  16. vultures. Worship is at altars on which the
  17. sacred fire burns.
